Quick Post: And We're Back
Just a quick update on what has been happening.
So, it’s been a few months
Even though I try to publish something about every month, when I started this blog I promised myself that I would never go down the “content for content’s sake” path. So here we are. The good news is, we are at the point where I can explain what’s been happening, because there has in fact been a lot happening that I’ve been eager to share here.
I got such a positive response after writing about mapping/analysis software I’ve built that a couple of people I trust about this stuff suggested it might actually be worth seeking out a patent. So, I got in touch with some attorneys through a friend and eventually decided to light some money on fire. The attorneys recommended I stop publishing about the project while we got through the preliminary process, so I’ve been keeping pretty mum over here.
That should be coming to a close next week. I’ve already got the next article pretty much written, and it’s long, and I hope you all like it. Ideally, it’ll be out mid-week, but again, I’m just doing what I’m paying the lawyers to tell me to do.
Feel free to reach out
What this also means is that I’m going to start to treat the mapping/analysis side-project more like a business (as the patent process is expensive). So, if anyone reading this is in the golf industry or on greens committees and likes these upcoming articles, do feel free to reach out if you think the analysis would be helpful with a project you’re working on. At this point, I’m primarily interested in learning whether it’s a viable product, and the next article will focus specifically on analysis of hole redesigns/restorations.
GolfCourse.Wiki
I’ll also mention my other project GolfCourse.Wiki, which continues to see slow but consistent growth in user traffic and courses listed. It’s why I started publishing here in the first place, and if you haven’t visited the site, head over there and help us build a Wikipedia for golf courses.

Anyway, here’s some photos from the last few months:
